Removing Barriers to Lifesaving Cancer Screenings

News,

Cancer screening can save lives by finding cancer earlier, when treatment may be most effective. Yet for many of Neighborhood Health’s patients, getting screened is not as simple as making an appointment.

Lack of insurance, transportation challenges, language barriers, work and caregiving responsibilities, and the cost of follow-up care can all prevent patients from receiving recommended screenings. Neighborhood Health works to remove these barriers so that patients can receive high-quality preventive care, regardless of their insurance status, background, or ability to pay.

Our providers incorporate recommended cancer screenings into primary care visits, including screenings for breast, cervical, and colorectal cancers. They take time to explain why a screening is needed, answer questions in a patient’s preferred language, and help patients understand what to expect. Care teams also assist with referrals, appointment scheduling, and follow-up when additional testing or treatment is necessary.
