Prenatal Care
If you are pregnant or think you might be, you can get care at Neighborhood Health. We have provided prenatal care in Northern Virginia since 2019, and we see pregnant patients at three clinics in Alexandria — with patients travelling to us from Arlington, Annandale and across Fairfax County.

What prenatal care includes
Prenatal care is the regular check-ups you have while you are pregnant. They let your care team follow your health and your baby's growth, catch problems early, and answer your questions along the way. At Neighborhood Health, your prenatal care includes:
- Regular visits with a provider throughout your pregnancy
- Blood pressure, weight and general health checks at every visit
- Lab work and blood tests, done on site
- Screening for conditions such as gestational diabetes, anemia and high blood pressure
- Referrals for ultrasounds and any specialist care you need
- Advice on nutrition, exercise, medications and what is safe during pregnancy
- Screening and support for depression and anxiety during and after pregnancy
- Help applying for Medicaid, at no cost to you
- Breastfeeding support and planning for after the birth
- Postpartum visits to check on you after your baby arrives

Open Monday and Tuesday 7:45 am – 7 pm, Wednesday 8 am – 7 pm, Thursday and Friday 8 am – 5 pm, Saturday 8 am – 12 pm. Our largest site, with evening and Saturday appointments, an on-site pharmacy and behavioral health under the same roof.

Your first prenatal visit
Come in as soon as you think you are pregnant. Ideally that is in your first 12 weeks, but it is never too late to start — if you are further along, call us anyway.
What to bring
- A photo ID
- Your insurance or Medicaid card, if you have one
- A list of any medications or vitamins you take
- The date your last period started, if you know it
What happens
Your first visit is the longest one. Your provider will go through your health history, do a physical exam, order lab work and work out your due date. You will have time to ask questions — bring them written down if that helps. After that, most patients come in about once a month at first, then more often as the due date gets closer.

Care that continues after your baby is born
Prenatal care is the start, not the whole of it. After the birth we provide postpartum visits for you, pediatric care for your baby, behavioral health support if you need it, and prescriptions from our on-site pharmacies. Most of our patients stay with us — the same clinic, often the same team.

Yes. Casey Health Center is open until 7 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays and on Saturday mornings, and Martha Custis Drive is open until 7 pm on Thursdays.
Neighborhood Health partners with Inova Alexandria Hospital and Virginia Hospital Center for deliveries. Your care team will discuss your delivery location with you and help coordinate arrangements based on your care needs.
Yes. Spanish-speaking providers and staff work at all three of our prenatal clinics, and free interpretation is available in other languages.
