Primary Care at Neighborhood Health
Everyone at Neighborhood Health has a deep commitment to the health and well-being of our patients regardless of their background or circumstances. Our patients are the reason that we do this work. We strive to provide care that aligns with our patients' goals and preferences.
We provide primary care for the whole family. Our model of care is both comprehensive and integrated and includes not only medical care but also behavioral health, dental care, medication assistance, labs, case management, and referral to community resources – all in one setting.
Health care costs are a burden for too many families. For low-income patients with high copays or deductibles or without insurance, we offer a discounted sliding fee scale. We accept Medicaid. And we help our patients obtain low cost medications and other resources.
We strive to be accessible to our patients. We have clinics in multiple neighborhoods across Northern Virginia. We offer our patients same day and next day appointments and evening and weekend options at some locations. Our staff speak multiple languages. Our patients have access to an online patient portal and an after-hours advice line.
We strive to provide our patients with the highest quality primary care. Neighborhood Health has a highly qualified and dedicated team of health care professionals. We have consistently won awards for quality metrics including a National Quality Leader award for performing among the top 5% of health centers nationally.
Patient safety is a top priority at Neighborhood Health. We are accredited by the Joint Commission under its ambulatory care standards. We actively promote a culture of safety across the organization and work towards the highest patient safety standards.

In partnership with our community, we have been working to expand access to health care in Northern Virginia for more than twenty years.
In 1994, the Alexandria Health Department opened a clinic in a small apartment, the Arlandria Clinic for Women and Children. After three years, the clinic became a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization, Alexandria Neighborhood Health Services, Inc.
More than twenty-three years later, Neighborhood Health is a non-profit Federally Qualified Health Center that serves more than 29,000 patients in multiple clinics across Alexandria, Arlington, and Fairfax County.
How We Make A Difference
“My provider is an excellent doctor. I could not find a better doctor to care for me than her, nor could I find someone that could care for my wellbeing like she does. I like everything about the clinic from the attention they give me to the follow up about my health. I love how kind the doctor is. Even though she has many patients, she knows all the patients and their medical histories. She is attentive to her patients’ health.”
“The staff was great. I needed an emergency appointment for my child and it was given right at the time that I wanted, the next day. The doctor explained everything well.”
“Neighborhood Health is filling an absolute critical need for health care in our community. There are thousands of patients that would not be receiving essential primary care, essential dental care, and essential behavioral health care if it was not for Neighborhood Health.”
“We are all like a big family. We all have one mission which is to take care of patients even if they cannot afford insurance and we treat everyone with dignity and respect.”
“My provider is extremely competent, knowledgeable, caring, relatable, and professional. I also like the support staff. They are always very helpful, very calm, and make me feel like it is a safe, non-judgmental environment.”
“Everybody cares. They call you when there is an appointment. They send you messages and call you. When you go there, the staff is so nice, they help you with everything. They answer your questions. When you see the doctor, when you go to behavioral health, or go to the dentist, they are all very helpful.”
“My behavioral health provider actively tracks the progress of the patient. She tells you this is where we are, this is where we need to go, and this is what we have achieved thus far. I think this is exceptional. She doesn’t just have a discussion with you about your problems. She actually monitors where you are, what progress you made, and what progress you hope to make.”
“The provider has helped my son a lot with anxiety and the outbursts he has sometimes. I like the counselor; she is excellent. My son likes her too. She is really good with kids. She listens and provides ideas on how to manage their problems. It really has helped him. For us, it was perfect.”
“I liked the professionalism of the dental team here. They are most concerned about what will benefit the patients. I’ve been in the medical field for much of my life and their sense of what they can do to help you makes me go and tell more people about the services here.”
“I always say I couldn’t work anywhere else because our patients are so wonderful to work with and deliver care to.”
