Meet Dr. Camilla Nusbaum: Bringing Family Medicine and HIV Care Together
News, Clinic News

Dr. Camilla Nusbaum first came to Neighborhood Health as a resident through Inova’s community health training track. For two years, she spent Friday afternoons seeing patients here. When her residency ended, she knew she wanted to stay.
Three years later, Dr. Nusbaum provides family medicine and HIV care at our Mark Center clinic. She also helps train the residents who now follow the same path that brought her to Neighborhood Health.
Recently, she earned her HIV specialist certification after completing additional education, gaining experience caring for people living with HIV, and passing the certification exam.
For Dr. Nusbaum, being a family physician means caring for the full range of a patient’s health needs. Her patients living with HIV also come to her for preventive screenings, chronic disease management, and everyday health concerns. Receiving that care from a familiar provider in one place can help reduce the time, cost, and transportation challenges of visiting multiple offices.
Through Neighborhood Health’s Ryan White program, eligible patients can also receive help accessing HIV medications, transportation to appointments, and medical and nonmedical case management. Dr. Nusbaum works with the team to connect patients with support that helps them stay in care.
What she values most is the opportunity to provide quality care to patients from many backgrounds, including those who might otherwise struggle to access it. She also appreciates the daily collaboration and learning among colleagues.
