Helping Northern Virginians Navigate Medicaid  

Applying for health coverage or keeping existing coverage can be complicated and time consuming. Neighborhood Health’s Project Connect helps individuals and families navigate the process with free, one-on-one support. 

Neighborhood Health’s Medicaid Project Connect Outreach Workers assist community members with applications and renewals, track applications through the enrollment process, help resolve problems that can delay or interrupt coverage, and answer questions about Medicaid.  

But Project Connect is about more than filling out an application. Outreach Workers help people submit required documentation, follow up on overdue cases, address inaccurate denials or terminations, select a managed care organization, and understand changes to Medicaid policies and requirements. When another coverage option may be more appropriate, they can also connect individuals and families with other insurance and benefit resources. 

All of this will get more complicated for adults who have been eligible through Virginia’s Medicaid expansion program. As federal rules change, people will have to renew their coverage every six months instead of yearly and may need to provide proof of monthly work or volunteer hours. 

Neighborhood Health also works closely with community organizations and local Departments of Social Services to reach people who may need assistance and identify barriers that make it harder to obtain or maintain coverage. Project Connect partners include organizations serving children and families as well as other community-based organizations throughout Northern Virginia. 

This hands-on assistance is especially important as Medicaid requirements and renewal processes change. By helping people understand what they need to do and supporting them throughout the process, Project Connect helps more of our neighbors maintain access to health coverage and the care they need.
