Governor Abigail Spanberger Visits Neighborhood Health to Discuss Healthcare Access and Affordability

Neighborhood Health was honored to welcome Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger to our Richmond Highway health center on August 13 for a visit focused on access to affordable, high-quality healthcare and the important role community health centers play in caring for Virginia families.

During the visit, Governor Spanberger toured the health center, met with Neighborhood Health staff and patients, and discussed some of the most pressing healthcare challenges facing our communities, including the cost of prescription medications, access to coverage, and the impact of changes to Medicaid.

The Governor highlighted recent efforts in Virginia to make healthcare more affordable, including a new $35 monthly cap on out-of-pocket insulin costs and measures addressing prescription drug costs. She also discussed the Commonwealth’s efforts to protect access to healthcare as Virginia prepares for changes to federal Medicaid funding.

“We are grateful to Governor Spanberger for taking the time to visit Neighborhood Health, meet our staff, and learn more about the patients and communities we serve,” said Dr. Khan. “I am incredibly proud of our staff and the high-quality care they provide every day. Community health centers like Neighborhood Health are an essential part of the healthcare safety net, ensuring that our most vulnerable neighbors have access to care regardless of their insurance status, income, or background.”

Neighborhood Health serves more than 42,000 people across Alexandria, Arlington, and Fairfax County, providing comprehensive primary medical, dental, behavioral health, and other services. The Governor’s office highlighted Neighborhood Health’s role as a nonprofit community health center serving more than 42,000 Virginians during the visit.

For Neighborhood Health, the visit was also an opportunity to recognize the extraordinary work of our staff. Every day, our teams work to remove barriers to care and ensure that patients can receive the services they need with dignity and respect.
