Ms. Riggle-van Schagen provides individual and family therapy to children, adolescents and adults in the community health care setting in English and Spanish, both of which she is fluent in. She has significant expertise working with the Latino community and strong multicultural competency and experience working with diverse client populations. She also regularly collaborates with the City of Alexandria Public Schools to provide mental health services and facilitate trainings for parents and other child care providers within the community. Ms. Riggle-van Schagen has collaborated with the City of Alexandria’s Domestic Violence Intervention project, and in October of 2007 was recognized for outstanding service to survivors of domestic violence. She is also an alumnus of the National Health Service Corps, and a member in good standing of the National Association of Social Workers.
Ms. Riggle-van Schagen holds a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Maryland, Baltimore, with a specialization in Clinical Mental Health. She also holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Human Development and Psychological Services from Northwestern University. In 2008 she obtained her clinical licensure in the state of Virginia and in 2012 completed training to provide clinical supervision toward licensure, recognized by the Virginia Board of Social Work.
