Making It Easier for Children to Get Glasses at Arlington Pediatric Center
News, Clinic News

Neighborhood Health is making it easier for children to get the glasses they need. Arlington Pediatric Center (APC) now participates with EyeMed for eligible Medicaid vision benefits, including HealthKeepers Medicaid and Humana Medicaid. Pediatric patients with this coverage can choose their frames at APC during their optometry exam, bringing eye care and glasses selection together in one convenient location.
For busy families, finding a separate optical shop that accepts their child’s coverage can create an additional barrier to care. This new service simplifies the process by allowing children to try on and select covered frames during their visit, eliminating the need for a separate trip to an outside optical shop.
APC offers a wide variety of covered frames so children can find a style they feel comfortable and confident wearing. Our team helps families understand their options and choose glasses that meet their child’s vision needs within their covered benefits.
Who Can Participate?
The program is currently available only at Arlington Pediatric Center for pediatric optometry patients from birth through age 18. Children must be established with a Neighborhood Health primary care provider and have their optometry exam at APC to use this service.
Participation applies to eligible EyeMed Medicaid coverage, including HealthKeepers Medicaid and Humana Medicaid. It does not include private EyeMed insurance plans. This service is separate from Neighborhood Health’s free glasses program for uninsured children and is not yet available at our Annandale or Richmond Highway locations.
Thank You to the Virginia Health Care Foundation
We are grateful to the Virginia Health Care Foundation for supporting our vision program at APC. Its investment helps Neighborhood Health expand access to pediatric eye care and bring more services together for children and families.
By making it easier to access eye exams and covered glasses, we can help children see clearly, participate in the classroom, and enjoy everyday activities.
Families interested in this service can contact the APC team to ask about eligibility and scheduling.
