Basim Khan, MD, MPA is the Chief Executive Officer and a primary care physician at Neighborhood Health, a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) that provides primary care to more than 42,000 low-income patients in 15 clinics across Northern Virginia. He joined the organization in 2011 as an internal medicine physician and previously served as its Medical Director. He has served in the CEO role since 2015, leading the organization through a period of significant growth and impact. Dr. Khan’s primary interest is expanding access to high quality and affordable health care for underserved populations. He received his medical degree from the UCLA and internal medicine residency training from UCSF in a primary care track based at San Francisco General Hospital. He received his bachelor’s degree from Brown University and a master’s in public administration from Harvard Kennedy School. He has served as a Presidential Leadership Scholar, co-chair of Virginia’s Board of Medical Assistance Services (BMAS), a Governor’s Council member of the Virginia ACP, and on the Board of Directors of the National Physicians Alliance, Culmore Clinic, and ACT for Alexandria. His awards include Washingtonian of the Year, Washington Business Journal Nonprofit Executive of the Year, and the Alexandria Flora K. Casey Award. Dr. Khan speaks Urdu/Hindi, Pashto, and Spanish and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. He lives in Arlington, VA.
